https://www.doubletakemirror.com Our 12 year long-term review of Doubletake mirrors! And we also check out the latest version (because some idiot sold his perfectly good mirrors with his last bike). Regular viewers know we like cheap products and free motorbike modifications. How cheap? We often used both sides of the toilet paper to save money. But there are some products that are worth the extra money because they will probably last a lifetime. Welcome to Cross Training Adventure, we are into all things dual sport and adventure on the east coast of Australia. Doubletake mirrors are a good example. Almost indestructible. A huge range of adjustment. Easy to adjust while you are riding. Almost vibration-free. And you can fold them away in just a few seconds. Keen on adventure riding in Australia? Check out our vids. First? A long-term review of the original Doubletake mirrors. I used this set of mirrors for 12 years on all my adventure motorbikes. They survived plenty of crashes. Easy to adjust or fold away while riding. And you can remove them very quickly so I just bought extra bases for my second motorbike and swapped the mirrors between the two motorbikes. If you like dual sport riding in Australia then you might like our adventure riding vids. The only issues? The mirrors used alloy and it was easy to strip the thread if you weren't careful. There was a lot less vibration compared to cheap mirrors, but there was still a bit which made the view a bit blurry. And despite the RAM mounts being very strong, the mirrors could gradually move unless you tightened them a lot. Unfortunately I sold my old mirrors with my DR650 because I planned to focus on enduro riding the next two years. But I rode this AJP PR7 and fell in love. So I had to buy a new set of Doubletake mirrors. But it has been a good move. The alloy thread has now been replaced with stainless steel thread. The guys invented their own design to replace the RAM mounts and it works really well. The screw is much larger and easier to adjust while riding. It takes very little pressure to ensure a very tight fit so the mirrors no longer move over rough ground or at high speed. And there is even less vibration. And the 'balls' are now filled with alloy to avoid being crushed. We never had this problem but it sounds like some riders tightened the old Doubletake mirrors so much they crushed the balls. And I must admit nobody likes having their balls crushed. These adventure mirrors were AUD140 here in Australia and USD127 in the USA. If these last at least 20 years I think that's a really good investment. And it can save you money by moving instead of breaking. On most motorbikes your lefthand mirror screws into the clutch assembly. A solid hit against a fixed mirror can break it and cost you hundreds of dollars to replace. Ask me how I know. Check out our reviews of various adventure bikes and dual sport bikes. There's a wide range of mirrors available now. There are also different arm lengths. And if you have an original set of Doubletake mirrors you can upgrade to the stainless steel thread and/or the redesigned 'arms'. What about you? Do you just use your stock mirrors? Found any other good alternatives? Let us know and we'll put them in the pinned first comment. We have occasional detours to places like Vietnam, Cambodia, Romania and Canada. This is one of our three channels, there's also a Cross Training Trials channel, and a Cross Training Enduro channel. So most of our adventure riding vids will feature the much loved bush pig, the Suzuki DR650. Cross Training Adventure actively avoids sponsorship. We like doing seriously critical reviews. Manufacturers make some really bad mistakes. and there is a lot of dodgy crap being sold out there. Instead of glowing dual sport reviews for kickbacks or free product, we will try to keep the buggers honest. So subscribe. Or don't subscribe to our Cross Training Adventure riding channel. The main thing is get out and ride while you can with dual sport riding or Adventure riding in Australia, Canada, Vietnam, Romania and beyond! So check out Cross Training Adventure.
